Ishpeming– I didn’t know what to expect as I drove to the Country Lanes Banquet Center in the Country Village for the big giveaway party last night. As a new intern I haven’t ever experienced one of these parties yet. When I arrived there at about 4:00 the setup was already underway.
People were running around hanging banners, setting up the sound system, and decorating the tables. The decorative scheme was “underwater” and Bountiful Balloons supplied many interesting underwater creatures.
Half an hour before the event people started lining up at the doors waiting for the party to begin. At 6:00 the doors opened and the party began. People mingled and watched the picture slideshow while listening to a mix of music from all Great Lakes Radio’s stations. Elmer was signing personalized American Country Gold license plates. Then Mamma Russo’s served everyone a delicious dinner including their special homemade lasagna, cudighi bites, and salads.
Mark and Walt took the stage and kept people laughing as they started giving away door prizes galore. So many door prizes were given away that almost everyone walked away a winner!
Todd came up after all the door prizes were given away and gave people a chance to participate in a game to win Big Boy Certificates. Everyone got a good laugh as three lucky people tried to ad-lib a Big Boy ad to their audio “jingle” that’s used on the radio. The big winner of the night was Darnel Chevrette of Negaunee, who got her “15 minutes of fame”, when she won the grand prize which was a Nordic Escape Premium hot tub from the Rec Depot.
It ended up being a great night at the Country Lanes for everyone who attended. I had a fun time working with the sound system, taking pictures, enjoying the tasty Mamma Russo’s food, meeting new people, and running around handing out door prizes to all the winners. I’m glad I made it home safely from the party in the Sunny 101.9 van that was filled to the max with balloons and everything else from the party. The intern always gets the job no one else wants to do!
