Marquette Township, MI – December 8, 2015 – It’s that time of year again! Santa Claus is coming to town TONIGHT to flip the big switch and light up the Marquette Township Christmas Tree!
The annual Christmas Spirit Tree Lighting Ceremony starts at 6 pm with the Redmen Chorale on the big stage singing all your favorite Christmas carols. Santa arrives on the fire truck to light the tree donated by Marquette Township resident Jim O’Dovero. After lighting the tree, Santa will head into the Westwood Mall to visit with all the kids and take pictures!
Inside the mall, you’ll also find FREE coffee from Biggby Coffee, FREE bags of popcorn from Honor Credit Union, and FREE Christmas cookies from Super One Foods of Marquette.
It’s going to be a wonderful night, so stop by the Westwood Mall at 6 pm and Catch the Christmas Spirit with Marquette Township. We’ll be taking pictures of the event, so be sure to stop back on WFXD.com tomorrow to see all the great pictures. See you tonight!

We thank Jim O’Dovero for his tree donation, Rusty Bowers and his son for handling the activities of Santa and the Grinch, the Marquette Township Fire Department and the firemen who “fly” Santa in on our township fire truck, Marquette County Sheriff Deputies for looking after the safety of the townshipand ridding it of rascals like the Grinch, Super One Foods for the 350 cookies and apple juice for the kids, Landon at Biggby Coffee for providing hot coffee for township residents, Ellen at the Westwood Mall for making it a beautiful place to take pictures with Santa and to warm up after the tree lighting, Jan Brodersen of the Marquette Public Schools for bringing the students over and singing wonderful carols from the Great Lakes Radio stage, Luke Noordyk who works in the township and is a personality on Sunny.FM afternoons for spearheading the setup and lighting of the large 33-foot tree, Ross at Honor Credit Union for all the delicious popcorn, and many thanks to Township Manager Randy Girard and the Marquette Township Board and employees of the fastest growing township in Michigan for making it the best place to live, work, and play.
