Gwinn started off the game with an early 5-0 lead, with Tori Lauren and Jordyn Hutchens each scoring a field goal followed by a free throw from Lauren. Negaunee got on the board with 4 minutes left in the first quarter when Adena Anderson hit a 3-pointer. Tierra Taylor scored on the next play to give Gwinn the 7-3 lead. Negaunee’s Haily Fezatt hit a jumpshot to cut the lead to 2 points. Gwinn’s Ellie Olsen hit a free throw with 1:41 left in the quarter, followed by a layup by Kia Evans to make it 10-5 going into the second quarter.

Negaunee scored the first points of the second quarter with 6 minutes left in the half when Fezatt hit two free throws to make it 10-7. On the next play Tori Lauren putback a missed shot for Gwinn. Fezatt scored again for Negaunee with 4:11 left, followed by a pair of free throws from Hutchens to make it 14-9 with 3 minutes left in the half. Hutchens scored again on a fastbreak, followed by Negaunee’s Courtney Clickner scoring to make it 16-11. A free throw by Ellie Olsen was followed by a 3-point play by Lauren to make it 20-11 going into halftime.

Both teams went scoreless for the first 3 minutes, until Tori Lauren had a 3-point play to put Gwinn up 23-11. Kia Evans then had a layup on the left side for Gwinn with 4:14 left in the third quarter. Clickner had Negaunee’s first points of the second half with a 3-pointer, followed by a deep jumper from Kia Evans to make it 27-14. Clickner then scored again to make it 27-16, and the Modeltowners held on to that lead going into the fourth quarter.

Negaunee scored the first 4 points of the final quarter, followed by a putback basket from Nicole Usher to make it 29-20. Negaunee’s Aleda Johnson hit a 3-pointer, followed by a 2-point jumper to close the Gwinn lead to 4 points. Jordyn Hutchens hit two free throws to make it 31-25 with 5:10 left. On the next play Tori Lauren picked up an offensive rebound and scored for Gwinn, followed by Adena Anderson scoring for Negaunee with 4:25 remaining. Tori Lauren stretched the Gwinn lead to 35-27 with 2 minutes left after hitting two free throws. A free throw by Nicole Usher and a jumper by Hutchens were followed by a 3-pointer from Aleda Johnson to make it 38-32 with 30 seconds left. Free throws by Hutchens and Usher helped Gwinn hold on for a 41-35 win.

The Gwinn Modeltowners won their first district championship since 1997! Leading scorers for Gwinn were Jordyn Hutchens with 12 points, and Tori Lauren who had 12 points and 12 rebounds in the win. Kia Evans had 6 points, while Tierra Taylor and Nicole Usher both had 4 points.
