Browsing through website articles for newsworthy items to share with my listeners, I came across the phrase, “Bro-Country” that seems to have listeners polarized with regard to whether this genre of music is even “country”.
Evidently, New York Magazine writer Jody Rosen invented and defined the term “bro-country” on August 19, 2013. The writer defined the particular type of country music by and of the tatted, gym-toned, party-hearty young American white dude. It appears that Rosen took exception to Florida-Georgia Line’s, single,“Cruise” – where singers Hubbard and Kelley pay lip service to what they are attempting to sing as country.

I, myself, think the bastardization of country came with Kid Rock’s cheap excuse of a song, “All Summer Long”; a rip off from Lynyrd Skyward and Warren Zevon. The actual complaint should be the merging of Rap AND country music. Such examples I offer for consideration is Jason Aldean’s, “Dirt Road Anthem”; Jerrod Niemann’s, “Drink To That All Night’ or Moonshine Bandit’s, “Get Loose”.
The ultimate, Bro-Rap/Country example would be Bubba Sparxx, “Country Folks”. It’s not Rap. It’s not Country…but it’s Bro-Country!! Whatever floats your music boat, er, jam box or as we used to call ’em – ghetto blaster!!!!
Here’s Bubba Sparxx with Country Folks!
