Gwinn, Michigan– 01/29/16– Our Gwinn ModelTowner Boys basketball team stayed home tonight for their homecoming! This game was just phenomenal for the Gwinn guys and their practice really paid off! The Munising Mustangs traveled to Gwinn hoping to win but they ran into more than they bargained for. The first half of the game was a tight one. It looked like the Mustangs were going to breeze past the ModelTowners at first but those Gwinn guys brought the heat and showed off what they were made of. Austin Forbes, ModelTowner, did a wonderful job throughout the game but he really made his stand in the first half. Theo Reddlan and Jordan Stein were not ready to let the Mustangs take their homecoming and they remained determined with every shot they made. Jaylin Skinner put the ball up and in within the last three seconds of the first quarter to turn the tides for the ModelTowners and put them in the lead! The fans were going wild during the second quarter as the ModelTowners broke the tied score with Theo Reddlan putting it up and in. 29-33 was the score at halftime with the Munising Mustangs in the lead.
Tough and physical would be the words to describe the second half of the game. There were no wimpy fouls called. Austin Forbes did have to step out during the second half because of an injury during play but he was able to walk away from it. He was essential in this game and did a great job. Good luck to him with his injury. Tucker Taylor was another constant force for Gwinn in this game and the freshman really played like senior basketball player. Carter Ghiringhelli, ModelTowner, was also on a mission to make sure the ModelTowners won. Jordan Norman, for Gwinn, put up a nice three pointer in the last quarter to help secure the lead against the Mustangs and at the end of the game, he made the last few points for Gwinn with free throws. 58-46 was the final score with the ModelTowners taking the win for their homecoming! They were unbelievable and played like an entirely different team but it is working.
Everyone was happy and, as Carter Ghiringhelli said, “We played our hearts out and the scoreboard showed it!”. Practice paid off for these guys and they deserved the win.
