St. Joseph, MI – December 30, 2015 – Honor Credit Union is proud of their award-winning Student Credit Union program, and they want you to know about it! In addition to recent awards for Credit Union Professional of the Year and Young Professional of the Year, Honor Credit took first place in the Alphonse Desjardins Award for their excellent Student Credit Union program. This award, through the Michigan Credit Union League (MCUL), recognizes credit union efforts to teach financial concepts and skills to members and non-members in the youth and adult categories.
The MCUL selected Honor as the first place winner of this award for their outstanding Student Credit Union program! The 12 in-school student credit unions that reopened for business in the 2015/2016 school year are completely run by students, for students. Under the supervision of Honor branch teams, Student Credit unions promote life skills, financial literacy, and responsibility, all while showing kids how easy and fun saving money can be. It’s a great opportunity to teach our kids to take charge of their financial future.
A lot of effort goes into running the student credit union program. The Honor team and the partnering schools invest countless hours preparing for the opening of a student credit union and continuing successful operations of the in-school branches. Being awarded the Desjardins Award proves all that hard work and dedication to education has not gone unnoticed, all the hard work to get the online nursing degrees has paid off.
As the first place winner of the Desjardins Award at the state level, Honor Credit Union will now compete at the national level. Honor’s application for the state level will be reviewed by CUNA (Credit Union National Association) along with the applications from credit unions across the nation. Keep your fingers crossed for Honor Credit Union!
